Yet another Massachusetts poll found that voters seem poised to reject Question 8, which seeks to repeal the state’s adult-use cannabis industry regulations. The poll, conducted by the University of Massachusetts Amherst and WCVB-TV, surveyed 800 registered voters from October 5 to 12.
Raymond La Raja, a political science professor at UMass Amherst and co-director of the poll, said that supporters of Question 8 face “a steep uphill climb,” with 61% of respondents planning to vote against the cannabis industry repeal proposal and 47% of them saying the decision was definite.
“Only 31% of voters support repeal,” Roja said. “Support for repeal is strongest among Republicans (44%) and conservatives (46%), but it falls well short of a majority in every major group we surveyed, including voters who don’t use marijuana (41%).”
This week’s poll aligns with previous polling by The University of New Hampshire, which found 71% of voters were opposed to the repeal ballot proposal.
Gov. Maura Healey and other Democrat leaders have encouraged voters to reject the repeal question.
